In Indian Cuisine, we call Raita to a condiment made with dahi (yoghurt or curd) and single or mixed vegetable or fruit or sometimes with fried droplets of besan (gram flour).
Fruit Raita (Fruit with Yogurt) always accompany Indian lunch or dinner. Fruits are high in fibre, and yoghurt is a probiotic. Thus, when these both combines, it gives you a perfect meal supporting your metabolism. Therefore, a healthy version of the traditional recipe.
I am going to share with you a recipe of sweet and sour raita, though Raita in Indian cuisine has many variations and you can experiment with it as per your liking. You can have it alone or with any kind of Indian meal.
- Yoghurt or Curd (whisked) – 1 cup
- Black Grapes – 1/4 cup, cut into small pieces
- Apples – 1/4 cup, cut into small pieces
- Pomegranate – 1/4 cup
- Condensed Milk – 1/2 cup
- Black Salt or Rock Salt – to taste
- Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder – 1/4 tsp (optional)
- Put Yoghurt in a bowl.
- Add Condensed Milk and mix it thoroughly.
- Now, put all fruits and mix.
- Add salt, cumin powder and red chilli powder and mix thoroughly.
- Sweet and Sour Fruit Raita is ready.
- You can use any choice of fruit except those which contain water like orange, watermelon, kiwi, etc. because it doesn’t taste good with yoghurt and release water with salt.
- If you don’t want to use condensed milk, put 2 tsp of sugar into yoghurt first, then start from Sr. No.3 above.
